Fat Quarter Projects

Being in a quilt group, has encouraged me to organize my fat quarters and fabric remnants and think about what I might create with them.

Most of us who sew end up with a "stash" of beautiful fabrics we bought just because we loved them, with no particular project in mind. I'm definitely guilty!

Our Cobblestone Quilters group just had the reveal of our Brown Bag projects. The challenge was to make something wonderful for another quilter with only five fat quarters. I made this bag.

The person who drew my name, used my five fat quarters (orange, of course!) to make me this beautiful table runner.

My friend, Claudia, is a sewing diva who owns her  own business selling Boot-E bags and other unique hand-sewn accessories. She made me this eyeglass case for Christmas and I love it; it's bright and cheerful and I can always find my reading glasses.

Since imitation is the best form of flattery, I used my glasses case to make a pattern and have had fun making a few glasses cases of my own.  I used this tutorial from Sew Many Ways as a guide to putting the case together so that the seams are hidden.

Claudia has also started making adorable little clutch bags with fat quarters. How cute are these?

We have a little Casita camper so this quilt block from El Blog de Elsi caught my eye. It might be fun to do with fabric remnants . . .

As would this sewing machine cover form Rainbow Hare Quilts blog.
Very cute!

Pinterest has lots of sewing tutorials as do a lot of my favorite blogs so I'm widening my search for the perfect "small amount of fabric" projects.

I'll continue to use some of my stash to sew My Sister's Scarves for cancer patients, although probably not with this "martini" fabric. Eventually that's going to be an apron for BFF Mary Elizabeth to wear when she entertains at her DIY martini bar.

If you sew, how do you use up your "little pieces"?
I'd love to hear your ideas!

Yours in fabric,

  6. Super projects - very handy to read as I am a sucker for fat quarters and can't stop buying them if I am attracted to a pattern even though I have no idea what I'd use it for! I am hoping to use some up on making little presents for my best friend when we holiday together again this year, so am searching for ideas!

I am also now suffering from serious fabric envy... such gorgeous patterns!
